The short version: Ledger is a tool for tracking your own spending, run by one person, and it doesn't do anything with your money or tell you what to do with it. The rest of this page just spells that out properly.
Ledger is a by-hand expense tracker — it helps you record and review your own spending. It has no connection to any bank, card, or financial account, can't move money, and can't see any balance you haven't typed in yourself.
You need an account to use Ledger, since its value is the history it builds over time. You're responsible for keeping access to your sign-in email secure. Ledger is for your own personal use — not for reselling, or for tracking spending on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.
Every entry, note, and journal reflection you log belongs to you. You can print it, save it as a PDF, or download all of it at any time — see Settings → Account. Using Ledger doesn't give us any rights to your content beyond what's needed to store it and show it back to you.
Ledger states facts about your own spending — totals, trends, comparisons to your own history — and never a recommendation. Nothing in the app is financial, tax, or investment advice, and it's not a substitute for a licensed financial adviser or accountant. Decisions you make based on what you see in Ledger are yours alone.
Ledger is run by one person and provided "as is," free to use for as long as it's affordable to keep running. It's not guaranteed to be available every minute of every day, and features may change as the product evolves. If continued free access ever has to change, you'll get a heads-up first, not a surprise.
Ledger is provided without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for losses arising from your use of it — including decisions made based on what it shows you, or time lost to an outage or a bug. This isn't meant to wave away real problems: if something's broken, tell us and we'll look at it.
You can stop using Ledger at any time. We may suspend or close an account that's used to abuse the service or break these terms. Either way, the data-handling commitments in our Privacy page still apply to whatever's been logged.
These terms may be updated as Ledger evolves. Material changes will be flagged in the app, not slipped in silently. Continuing to use Ledger after a change means you accept the updated terms.
